Ron Hyde writes under his Yupʼik name Agyaq — "star" — given to him by the community of Goodnews Bay, a village on the Bering Sea coast where he lived, worked as a wilderness and flyfishing guide, and served as a Village Public Safety Officer.

His life has carried him from Flint and Detroit through South Florida to Bush Alaska, where he came of age among Yupʼik peers and elders whose lessons run through every chapter of this book. He is the founder of PRL Logistics, an Alaska-based remote logistics management firm whose work has supported industry in oil and gas, mining, and defense projects in the world’s most remote regions. — a thread that traces back, improbably, to a Cold War childhood in Michigan.
